“WHEN PSYCHOANALYSIS MET HOLLYWOOD:
THE CASE OF MILTON WEXLER”
The Journal of the American Psychoanalytic Association (JAPA)
Interview with Adam Phillips.
In this broad-ranging interview with Dr. Fisher, Phillips shares aspects of his psychoanalytic education and his analysis with the controversial Masud Khan. He discusses his Jewish identity and the ways in which anti-Semitism played a part in his life. There are fascinating comments on Freud and Winnicott, as he situates his inner connection to both theorists. He explores his views of psychoanalytic interpretation and listening strategies, relationality and sociability, and the optimal ways an analyst can approach his patients. It is an excellent point of entry into understanding him and his prolific publications. This event was hosted by The New Center for Psychoanalysis in 2018.

The Subversive Edge of Psychoanalysis examines the radical and non-conformist perspectives of both classical and contemporary psychoanalysis.
The papers included in this book span the course of David James Fisher’s career. They contextualize significant cases from the recent history of psychoanalysis, critically analyse key aspects of psychoanalytic work, consider the role of psychoanalysis in the history of the twentieth century, and provide biographical sketches of major figures in the field. The book concludes with a cogent interview of the author by a distinguished psychohistorian, depicting how subjectivity, family themes, politics, and cultural affinities marked his choice of subject matter and methodology, his identifications, and antipathies.
The Subversive Edge of Psychoanalysis will appeal to mental health professionals and students with an interest in psychoanalytic practice and theory and academics and researchers who are fascinated by the subversive, non-conforming aspects of both classical and contemporary psychoanalysis. Surrogate: How A Woman Named Sandra Made Me A Mother By Karen L. Fund
I am pleased to announce the publication of my late wife, Karen Fund's book, "Surrogate: How A Woman Named Sandra Made Me a Mother." Karen tells the moving story about her pioneering and harrowing experience with surrogacy in the relentless pursuit of motherhood. This poignant narrative will assist infertile couples considering surrogate adoption and older women who desire to be mothers. The book will be helpful to mental health professionals working with infertile patients and to those considering new reproductive technologies.
Jimmy Fisher supplements Karen's unique essay with a portrait of her providing context. There is also an illuminating interview with Sandra Hopkins, the surrogate mother, addressing her experience and its impact on her life. Finally, here is a courageous piece by Chloe B. Fisher expressing her feelings about being the daughter of a surrogate.
“In this carefully crafted evaluation of various authors and subjects, Fisher's perceptions are informed by a deep and comprehensive knowledge of the psychoanalytic movement, its interaction with the wider context of European cultural and political history, and its philosophical and clinical origins.”
